Northwest Woodsmen vs Chicago Blaze September 14th, 2002 A-Side Summary The start of the Fall league season started off with a disappointing loss to the Chicago Blaze. As far as the game went, the Blaze had the wind at their back in the first half and took advantage of it with some good tactical kicking. Their rucking and scrumaging game out did the Woodsmen. The half ended with the Blaze up 7-0. The beginning of the second half reflected the type of rugby which earned us wins in the past. A good 10 - 15 minutes of rugby put 12 points on the board and the lead. The Blaze kept up the fight and answered back with a converted try. The Woodmen put another try in then camped out inside the Blaze's 22 meter for a good 10 minutes. Some mistakes and sound defense prevented a try but with time running down a converted try by the Blaze at the end capped the game at 21-17. Hats off the Blaze. L 17-21 B-Side Summary First half rugby by the Woodsmen was somewhat typical of that which was seen in the first side game. The half ended with the Woodmen down 12 - 7. Some critical talk at halftime must have sparked some spirit because the Woodsmen entered the second half with renewed energy. Good ball retention and offense enabled the Woodsmen to place some more points on the board and to head into the last 10 -15 minutes with a score of 24 - 15. The Blaze surged a couple times but sound defense kept them at bay and the game ended with a Woodsmen B side victory 24-20. W 24-20 |
