Woodsmen 11   South Side Irish 10

The Northwest Woodsmen won a nail bitter vs. thier loacl rivals The South Side Irish on a cold day in Lemont. The Woodsmen went up 5-0 on a weak side try by Sean Zilch. Jason Ziajik added two penalty kicks to put the Woodsmen up 11-0 at half time. The Irish scored a try early in the second half to make the score 11-5. After a sea-saw battle at mid-field the Irish drove in and scored another try with no time remaining on the clock. It all came down to the conversion kick which sailed wide right to seal the Woodsmen victory.

Woodsmen 21   Buffalo 17

The Woodsmen came out a little slow vs. Buffalo and fell behind by a score of 10-0. After settling in and adjusting to the conditions Brenden Gorman punched in a try and Jason Ziajik nailed a couple penalty kicks to put the Woodsmen up 11-10 at halftime. The highlight of the game came midway though the second half when Kevin Agnos blocked a kick at mid field, the ball bounced perfectly into his hands and Kevin rumbled 60 meters for the try.  Jason nailed the conversion and another penalty kick to put the Woodsmen up 21-10. Numerous penalties backed the Woodsmen up and Buffalo added a try and a kick as time expired, but it wasn't enough and the Northwest Woodsmen Rugby Club were crowned 2002 Midwest Champions!!!
